Email Configuration: Thunderbird

To install and configure Thunderbird to read your CS & ECE Systems email, you can either download a pre-configured version of Thunderbird that has been customized with the optimal settings to work with our mail servers, or if you have an existing installation you may add the account manually. Please use the appropriate instructions for either option below.

Thunderbird for CS & ECE Email

  1. Download and install the latest Thunderbird installer for language and operating system here:
    • Thunderbird Downloads
  2. Open Mozilla Thunderbird
  3. If you do not see the Mail Account Setup window, click File > New > Mail Account
  4. Enter your Name, CS & ECE email address, and EECS Unix Password in the Name, Email Address, and Password fields, then click Continue
  5. Review all of the settings, then click Create Account¬†

Add account to existing Thunderbird

  1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird 
  2. If you do not see the Account Wizard, click File > New > Mail Account…¬†
  3. Enter your Name, CS & ECE email address, and EECS Unix Password in the Name, Email Address, and Password fields, then click Continue¬†
  4. Click Manual Setup¬†
  5. Enter the following into the appropriate fields on the Server Settings tab
    • Server Name: imap.eecs.tufts.edu
    • Port: 993
    • Connection Security: SSL/TLS

     

  6. Click the Advanced button, and un-check Show only subscribed folders¬†
  7. Go to the Outgoing Server (SMTP) tab and click Edit¬†
  8. Enter the following into the appropriate fields
    • Server Name: smtp-tls.eecs.tufts.edu
    • Port: 465

     

  9. Click OK to accept all changes and close the Account Settings window
  10. Click on Get Mail to force Thunderbird to connect to the server¬†
  11. Enter your CS & ECE Unix password in the password prompt, then click OK
